State Museum Trip

My grandmother gives us free passes for the state museum from time to time. We have taken the kids twice now and they love to go and see the exhibits and play in the great play/explore area that they have for children. This time we were able to take Jonathan's friend, Emma, with us. She and all the rest of the kids had a great time! Thank you grandmother for the tickets!!

A death in the family

Today my brother in law lost his battle with cancer. Shaw Wylie was only 37 years old but he has been battling cancer since last year. He had cancer in his colon and received chemo last year for it, but either it was never fully gone or it came back and was in his liver, lymph nodes, and lungs. He attempted treatment again but with no success. He spent his last days at home and then had to be moved to the hospice house where he stayed for two days before leaving this world to meet his maker. Shaw is doing remarkably well today! He is no longer in pain and is in the presence of the Lord! I am glad that he is out of pain but we will all miss him!!!

During the course of his illness, we were able to help out by watching his child (my nephew-Austin) several times. We have been to Chuck E Cheese and to the park as well as simply hung out at home. Last Saturday was such a beautiful day that we took Austin along with our kids to the park along Lake Bowen in Boiling Springs. The kids had a great time and I am so happy that I was able to help out just a little bit.

After the park, the kids all wanted some ice cream so we made a pit stop at Bruster's! I even got a cone of sugar free, fat free strawberry swirl!!

Teeth for Keeps

This week at the ELC Nicholas is learning about good dental health. He is enjoying the week and has told me that his class is doing an experiment with eggs (to represent teeth) and the effects of different kinds of drink on the 'teeth'. They have also done a good dental health check list and tommorrow a dentist is visiting the ELC! Today though he came home from school with a cute book about teeth and I thought I would share it with everyone.

The book fans out and so I had to photograph it in two parts...Can't wait to hear all about the dentist's visit!

Valentine's Day Parties

I always try to find ways of sending valentines that are unique and out of the ordinary. This year Nicholas and I decided on making candy necklaces for the girls in his class and robots for the boys. I also made rice krisy treat hearts with red sugar decoration for Laurie's puggles class and Jonathan's class at school. I also made heart shaped brownies with powdered sugar on top for all the teachers.

This year I was in charge of planning the valentine's day party for Jonathan's class at school. Our menu was mexican for this party and the kids loved it! They all ate so well. We also had heart shaped sugar cookies from the bakery. After all the food was devoured, we had a scavengar hunt with the class. They all had to find the items necessary to make a valentines and put it together the fastest to win our hunt. Jonathan's group came in second or third...but a good time was had by all.

The Two Big Snow Events of 2010

We have now had two big ice/snow events this year. The first one happened on January 29 and 30th. It was an ice event for us but some parts of the upstate and the mountains got actual snow. The boys were excited but not too impressed when they realized that it was all melted in two days. They were able to sled on Saturday morning, January 30 but when they were ready to go out again after church on the 31st the ice had all melted! They were not happy but since my in laws had gotten more actual snow than we did we went over to their house to play.

The second one happened on February 12th. This one was an actual snow event. The upstate and midlands got anywhere from 3 to 6 inches which is alot for SC. You could actually see the snowflakes as they were falling...they were so big! The kids loved it! Nicholas wanted to go outside while it was snowing but we held him off till the next morning. The kids made snowballs and snow angels and even attempted to sled through the snow but it was too deep.

I sure am glad that the children like the snow but I am ready for the spring!
